Primary wound current transformers are used wherever small primary rated currents of 1 A or more need to be converted by the measuring system into usable, galvanically isolated secondary rated currents of 5 A or 1 A. Unlike plug-in or cable wound current transformers, wire wound current transformers have 4 screw terminals. Both the primary and secondary current are connected directly via screw terminals on the front and rear.

Bushing type current transformers are used whenever high currents are to be acquired and processed. They are placed directly on the primary conductor (busbar or conductor) through the opening. The secondary side (usually a measuring device, energy meter or display) is connected by front and rear connection terminals.
